Description
About the Oval Dragon artwork: Inspired by Lord of the Rings, George Powell asked artist V.C. Johnson to design a new dragon graphic in 1980 — Johnson suggested an oval, logo-style shape since it was built for stickers and t-shirts. The design came together during the Gold Cup contest series, and both Steve Caballero and Mike McGill rode it at the Upland Finals. The Oval Dragon went on to appear across a price-point line of decks and assemblies before becoming the official top graphic for every Powell-Peralta deck — a spot it held until the Winged Ripper replaced it in 1987.
